I'm starting to think I must be allergic to something in the mold/mildew family. It's been raining for about a week, and my allergies are like unto drive me nuts.

Also, this morning I took a Benadryl so I could breathe, then I had some coffee to counteract the Benadryl, and now I'm sleepy *and* jittery.

Hmph.

I've never found a cure for the drowsiness from antihistamines. My only choice is to try one of the non-drowsy ones, or accept the drowsiness (which means only taking it if it's nearly bedtime and I don't need to be functional the next day).

I used to be able to balance diphenhydramine and caffeine, but it doesn't seem to be working right now. I've tried Claritin and Zyrtec, and neither of those seemed to work for me at all, although it's been a few years and might be worth trying again. And I can't take anything with a decongestant; I react really, REALLY badly to those.

Nod. If I take diphenhydramine (Firefox wants to correct that to "methamphetamine"), and I'm busy with engaging work, I'm okay, but I feel lousy. But if I'm not busy and engaged, the tiredness pulls my brain into a fog, and neither coffee nor my ADHD meds helps. I assume that a crisis or surprise stimulation would snap me out of it - it always does - but nothing else seems to matter.

I think it's not the drowsiness per se but the tendency of my brain to go foggy that I hate so much about it.

Where, roughly, do you live?

Maryville, Tennessee, USA. And I work in Knoxville, about 25 miles north of where I live.

I guess it's high humidity there?

*grin* You might say. Average relative humidity in Knoxville is about 75% (varying, of course, depending on time of year and time of day -- winter is generally much less humid, but we're having a warm winter with lots of rain rather than snow).

Yeowch. Remind me not to visit!

Oh, dear! No, come visit during the winter; the humidity is generally lower and it's usually cooler. :-)

I did Houston in July once. Not the smartest thing ever, for someone who gets headaches in humid conditions! Phoenix, though, was fine at around the same time of year (several years later)

*sends you anti-allergic vibes*

Hey, have you ever used a neti pot? It might help. (Just remember not to use tap water in it!)

We have one, but Dale and I both fear it and have never tried it. I'm klutzy enough that I'd probably end up drowning myself rather than successfully washing out my sinuses.
