Day 7 -- more desk

Before

After

Small bit today; the center shelf that was full of miscellaneous office supplies and random bits of paper is now empty. The office supplies have been collected in the organizer now visible in the lower left, and the papers have been tossed, shredded, or put into labeled file folders in the right-hand pigeonhole.

No ritual today; it seemed a small enough area and non-threatening enough that I didn't feel I needed the support. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning the ritual altogether.

Maybe our before-and-after pictures are becoming a small ritual in themselves.

The "before" picture draws a circle around the problem area to bring it into focus... and "after" wipes away the focus energy to let you relax.

(I hope you won't mind me trying to phrase it as if from your viewpoint when I really don't know you, but it keeps making me think of some friends from long ago who had a similar frame of reference. And something neat from the news that I'm glad I can share with someone! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-15917921)

That is an interesting take on it. I often feel compiled to take a new before picture before I start, even if I already have one from a few days ago and nothing really changed!

I am always fascinated by stone circles.... And Stonehenge is one of the best, so I enjoyed the article, so glad to see that the A344 close to it will be rerouted. I often don't approve of such extravagances, but in this case I think its the right thing to do!

I grew up 15 minutes drive from Stonehenge. It currently (or, last time I went which was admittedly a while ago) feels very impersonal there but I believe the work they have planned should make a geat deal of difference.

I haven't actually been there myself. Always wanted to go, but have been put off by the photos that show the road and all the people. Been to a few circles in the northern islands of scotland, those were magnificent!

I really hope the changes will restore the right "feeling" to Stonehenge... so I can visit one day!

To be honest I prefer Avebury, which isn't that far from Stonehenge. Much more atmosphere and warmth. And the Rollrights in Oxfordshire, which really does feel magical. I've danced barefoot in the snow at that one!

I'll have to keep it in mind. My favorite was on Orkney, I can't remember the name.

Barefoot in the snow, thats something!

Callanish is the one that springs to mind but I've never been.. I will one day; I want to see the northern lights and a few places up there so I'll have to time a trip carefully :)

Thank you so much for the Stonehenge link! And, you know, you're probably right about the pictures being either part of the ritual or a ritual in themselves.

You're doing so well! Maybe when the whole desk is finished you could post your first 'before' and your last 'after' for comparison..

I know not everyone would go along with this, but sometimes I think when you do ritual in the same place several times the residual energy can hang around and keep the area in the right 'place', energetically speaking, to continue working without the formal casting and banishing. Maybe this has happened here?

That's distinctly possible, and I suspect my mentor would agree with you. "Paths are made by walking on them."

I'm definitely going to use the ritual for the next segment, though, because every time I look at the random collection of crap behind those doors and on top of the hutch, I shudder and think something like, "Oh, ghods, I just don't even want to DEAL with all that." And yet, and yet -- I want to make it go away even more. This is a goodness.

I'm glad you have your ritual to give you the drive to get it done. You may well find that you are more productive at your desk now too, not just because of the clear space but also the residual energy.

I love the 'paths are made by walking on them' quote. Very apt, and totally logical. Thankyou for sharing that :)

Good luck with the hutch...

Good job!

For organizing inspiration I love reading Chex Larsson (http://chezlarsson.com/myblog/organizing/)

Of course she keeps it all clean by constantly throwing things OUT and I won't do that....

Duh I meant Chez Larsson.

Ooooh, I like! Well, maybe not all the white, but the ideas look good and also cheap to do!

Thank you!

I looked at a few pages of her blog-- wow, is everything white. I've been throwing out a lot of stuff, but it's mostly trash being thrown out, and stuff I no longer use or feel attached to is getting Freecycled.

Yep it's her favorite color. She likes it bc then she can accessorize with other colors. Like usually she paints an accent wall and puts art or accessories out based on what color she feels like, and changes it all a lot. I've seen her living room in her previous house with a aqua wall, a bright green wall, and a navy wall, and her bedroom has been buttercup yellow too.

Pretty!

When I was in Denmark, all the apartment blocks had a metal recycling bin out back...and all the new people coming into the apartment would check out the metal bin to see what they could use.

We had a gorgeous iron candelabra for the duration...

This is AWESOME! Thank you for posting all of these before and after pictures and stories of how you're managing. Though I'm not posting too much in the way of specifics, I'm continuing to work on my space as well, and seeing your progress is definitely helping to motivate me. Lin walked in on Sunday, after I'd made a major effort to clean up for company arriving on Saturday, and stopped in his tracks and said, "Oh my GOD! You can walk all the way around the bed!" My friend stayed overnight, and I wanted her to have a comfortable and non-allergy-inducing place to sleep. It feels really good to see things getting better at last.
