Interesting, unexpected, and intriguing side effect: as I was driving home from my meeting, I started thinking about doing a decluttering ritual tonight, and immediately got a burst of energy. I'll take it, it's good positive reinforcement, but now I'm wondering if I'm maybe not putting everything back when I'm done with it, at the end of the cleaning session.

Still with sweet decaf coffee. Put in about an hour and a half.

Today's before picture is yesterday's after picture.

The white box turned out to be full of stuff -- including, she says with much joy, some of my filk songbooks! It was also full of pencils and pens and markers. All of that has been shifted downstairs into the Freecycle this pile. The boombox has been moved elsewhere, since Dale says that's the better one and we should keep it. The bottom shelf was emptied and dusted, and books were dusted and replaced.

The brown box in the lower left is books to go to McKay's, and the one on the right is stuff I want to keep but don't have a place for yet.

Isn't motivation a great thing?

Its great watching this shelf taking shape... it already looks so much better.

I like your temporary boxes too, they don't look too cluttered... its a good way to keep those items that will soon find a new home!

Hmm... I need to learn to do a decluttering ritual. Make that a bulldozering ritual... :-)

I'm with you. Unfortunately, I can't afford to rent the 'dozer necessary for my decluttering... heh...

Seriously, I thought it was going to take a bulldozer (or, ghods forbid, a fire) to get me moving, but -- and I'll grant that three days does not make a trend -- so far this is working, just a little bit every day.

Focus on how you *feel* when you move into a neat and clean space. All the mess? Is stagnant energy.

remember how you *feel* and you will see it becomes addicting :-)

I think for me there's a happy medium -- "too" neat and tidy is uncomfortable, and so is "too" cluttered. Somewhere in between seems to work best for me. But maybe if I move closer to neat and tidy in my own space, that will change.

Well, you could try this one and see if it helps . . . .
