From chat just now:
By any chance, are you familiar with a live-action adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland", produced no later than mid-80's, with an older girl (mid- to late-teens, rather than the typical 7 - 9 year old) playing Alice? Only other thing I can tell you about it is that it wasn't a musical adaptation.

It's [a friend]'s favorite version of the film, and she's had no luck at all tracking it down. She and her sister wore out the copy of it that their dad had taped for them back when they were kids.

She didn't remember there being any commercial breaks in their tape, so her inclination was that it was a movie rather than made-for-TV, but her father could have possibly edited out (i.e., not recorded) the commercials, so that's not necessarily an identity clue to the source. She also remembers it being in color, which seems to rule out a mid-60s British adaptation which would otherwise seem to fit the bill, as it's one of the rarer non-musical live actions versions.

Any ideas?

I'm assuming the various versions on IMDB have all been reviewed and cast aside, or I'd point to this one as being likely.

There's a 1983 episode of Great Performances on PBS showing a Broadway revival of the 1933 production of Alice, starring Kate Burton (26 years old) as Alice. IMDB link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083536/ IMDB doesn't seem to list it as a musical, and although one of the reviews mentions a song, there's no real discussion of the music or songs generally. Since it was on PBS, there would be no commercial breaks to be recorded.

It's also available on Netflix (http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Alice_in_Wonderland/70029670?trkid=2361637#height1675).

So it is, and it's been in my Watch Instantly queue for months even.

PBS. I have very dim memories of a live-action Alice in Wonderland running on PBS. It was quite good.

Bug me in a week and I'll dig through my stack (guess what I'm collecting!)

In the mean time, I'd point to the Beckinsale's "Through the Looking Glass" as possibly being a contender.

Might be too recent, but: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Alice/60000309?trkid=496624#height1573
