My co-worker S's daughter, who is pregnant (ETA: and not due until February), passed out today. A trip to the ER has revealed that her white blood cell count is over 20,000, which indicates an infection of some sort. However, the cultures aren't back yet and the docs don't know what it is.

Your Good Thoughts for a quick and correct diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and overall well-being of mother and baby would be greatly appreciated. I will pass along printouts to S as appropriate.
